We (wife and self) decided to check this zoo out as we'd seen it many times on TV. We've been to many UK zoos, and a few overseas, so we had a good idea what to expect. In addition, I had visited a game park in Kenya many years ago and realise that a zoo is a different experience. The... more

“Visit to Frost Fair”

Visited the Frost Fair at Chester Zoo last night and it was a complete waste of money. Fortunately I had not paid for entry as this was free after 4pm. The only good thing about it was Father Christmas who was lovely and spent a lot of time chatting to my children. Everything costs money there and you can spend... more
“plenty to see” Oct 2008

Chester Zoo is definitely one of the best zoos in the UK! I have been literally dozens of times, partly due to my BSc. thesis being based on the Zoo's otters, and still look forward to going back. They are a registered charity supporting numerous conservation projects around the world as well as being a part breeding and reintroduction programs... more

We were really looking forward to our visit but, with the benefit of hindsight, should have wated until the schools went back! We queued for half an hour to get in the gates. The zoo was WAY too overcrowded today which meant that a lot of the animals were nowhere to be seen (we didn't see any of the big... more

This is our first visit to chester, we liked to start our sight-seeing with Chester Zoo. We went by bus no 4, got near city centre. We got down on the rear entrance for the pedestrians. We initially wondered, like "Such a small zoo?". After we went in, we felt we were wrong! They have a very good collection of... more

We have just returned from a short break to Chester, the highlight of which was a trip to the Zoo. We spent four hours walking round - leave yourself plenty of time to see the attractions! Our favourites were the elephants and the baby monkeys, all seemed to be having a great time! Unfortunately we were unable to see the... more

We just returned from a week end in Chester and stopped at the zoo on the Sunday. We went around the zoo, unfortunately as it was really cold, we didn't get to see much as the animals were all inside.....but we also booked for the frost fair and had fun on the ice skating rink.....it was good, just a bit... more

Second time I've been, fantastic place for kids and adults, even if your not particularly into nature. Great to see some of the Animals up close, especially the tigers. Amazing. I'd recommend this place to everyone to visit once. I don't think the price is bad either considering what the upkeep of the place must be. Good variety of animals,... more

As a wildlife fanatic I was a bit dubious about visiting the zoo, especially after some reports on other zoo's (small enclosures, etc) but I am pleased to say that Chester is a zoo to be proud of! The animal enclosures are large, clean and as natural an environment as a zoo can provide. All the animals seemed relaxed and... more
